MISSION
The Lloyd Symington Foundation, a small family nonprofit, serves the cancer community by supporting visionary individuals and spiritually grounded programs which offer healing at every level.
| WHO WE ARE
As a grassroots organization, the Lloyd Symington Foundation gives high priority to low-budget, grassroots programs, many of them start-ups or first of a kind, which can be replicated regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our primary focus is on people facing cancer and their loved ones; we look for programs which relieve physical and emotional suffering, enhance overall quality of life, and encourage a deeper connection to each person’s essential nature. We give special attention to programs that promote economic and cultural diversity, reaching out to low-income individuals and minority groups ignored or neglected by the healthcare system. In addition, the Foundation sponsors workshops, conferences, book projects and other educational activities which not only benefit people facing cancer but also raise public awareness. We also underwrite cutting-edge research when combined with direct client services.
CORE VALUES
A basic theme of the Foundation’s philosophy is forming partnerships with dedicated human beings. We especially seek out creative men and women who are motivated by altruistic values and who feel a calling to serve. We attach great importance to the spiritual dimension of health care, and we understand that healing can take place on multiple levels -- from the physical and emotional to the energetic and spiritual. The Foundation also has a strong commitment to social change and making a difference in the world. Through innovative, imaginative programs and conferences, we look for alternatives to the dominant biomedical paradigm of health care. Along with our partners in service - the Friends of the Foundation - we aim for a new ethos in American medicine, more personal, more humane, and more compassionate. |
